Facts about countertops!
When considering putting in a new kitchen counter or vanity top you may want to know these facts.Only two types are approved for food processing Stainless Steel and Acrylic Solid Surface. These two types do not support the growth of bacteria.
Granite tops while being quite beautiful should be sealed no less than once per year and in our opinion should be sealed twice per year and cleaned once per week with a rejuvenator to keep the pores sealed.
Granite can be stained and citrus fruit cannot be left sitting on top as this fruit will permanently etch the surface. This surface is very resistant to scratching but one should never take a hot pan off a cook top and sit it directly on the counter because the granite could suffer a thermo shock and crack. A little maintenance may be needed with a under mount sink as the joint is sealed with silicone caulk. So when one chooses granite a little maintained will insure many year of service.
Quartz solid surface is non-porous except at the seams. This product does not need any maintenance except at the seal between the counter and the sink. This product is a very good hard surface top for families with children as one does not have to worry about what’s left on top.
Granite and quartz can be chipped and is very difficult to repair.
Acrylic solid Surface with an integrated solid surface sink is seamless and bacteria have no place to hide. Its non-porous surface can not permanently stain. Cleaning a Solid Surface sink with Soft Scrub will keep it clean and remove any Surface stains.Solid surface can be easily repaired if needed and can be resurfaced almost indefinitely.
As for vanity tops in Solid Surface a Acrylic top can be damaged by contact with acetone (finger nail polish remover) and care should used with this product. There is a polyester solid surface top that cannot be damaged with acetone and we highly recommend this type of vanity top for your bathroom. Note the sink will still be Acrylic and you should be careful about contact. If your acrylic top should get damaged it could be professional repaired.
